Engineering design and drafting programs
- AutoCAD is developed by the Autodesk company and was first released in 1982. AutoCAD was the first CAD program, and it is still the most widely used CAD application. It is used across a wide range of industries, architects, engineers, project managers, designers, and other professionals. Today, AutoCAD continues to be the most widely used CAD program throughout most of the world and has reached its 29th version in 2015.
- Inventor: 3D CAD software used for product design, rendering, and simulation. You can design, visualize, and simulate your products before they are built with Inventor 3D CAD software.
- ArchiCAD is an architectural CAD software developed by Graphisoft in Hungary. This program handles all the common aspects of architecture in aesthetics and engineering design process. It was first developed in 1982 and has been recognized as the first CAD product able to create both 2D and 3D geometry in a single event. ArchiCAD is now on its 19th version in 2015.
- CATIA V5 (Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application) is the most powerful multi-platform software developed by the French company, Dassault Systems. CATIA was started as an in-house development in 1977 by French aircraft manufacturer Avions Marcel Dassault, at that time customer of the CAD/CAM CAD software to develop Dassault's fighter jet. It was later adopted in the aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, and other industries. Today CATIA is widely used in mechanical, design, systems, electrical, fluid, and other engineering systems design works.
